Class Attendance

Education at the university level requires active involvement in the learning process. As a result, you are expected to take responsibility for your education and attend classes in order to actively engage with the material and assignments. While policies are in place to help you do this, at the end of the day, only you can take control of your education.

Excused Absences

The following is a list of excused absences, as defined by the University of Arkansas:

  1. illness of the student,
  2. serious illness or death of a member of the student’s immediate family or other family crisis,
  3. university-sponsored activities for which the student’s attendance is required by virtue of scholarship or leadership/participation responsibilities,
  4. religious observances (See UA Religious Observances policy for more info),
  5. jury duty or subpoena for court appearance, and
  6. military duty.

The instructor has the right to require that the student provide appropriate documentation for any absence for which the student wishes to be excused.

Attendance Success

If you are enrolled in classes, it is important to go. You will learn more, perform better, and have a more successful academic career. Not only that, but someone, if not you, is paying for each of those credit hours, at around $40 a class period. (You wouldn’t throw 40 bucks in the trash, would you?) Every individual working on this campus is here to ensure that you succeed. Go to class. Not only that, pay attention. Engage. Sometimes that's easier said than done, but when you look back on your education, you will be glad you did.
