Our financial empowerment coaches meet with current undergraduate students at the University of Arkansas. Coaches work with undergraduate students to discuss choices and actions related to financial and academic success.

You and your coach will work to:

  1. Understand your current financial situation, financial strategies to pay for college, and overcoming financial setbacks
  2. Assess your needs and help set goals
  3. Access tools and resources to improve healthy, lifelong financial behaviors
  4. Monitor your progress to encourage continuous enrollment and, ultimately, graduation from the University of Arkansas

No, you don't need to have specific questions for your financial literacy appointment. Coaches are here to help guide the conversation and address any financial topics or concerns you might have. Whether you have detailed questions about budgeting, saving, or managing debt, or just want to discuss your overall financial environment, we'll make the most of our time together. You can expect your coach to ask you powerful questions that are curious, non-judgmental, and designed to promote reflection, create possibilities, and encourage new insights. Your coach is invested in your goals, cares about your results, and will be your biggest advocate!

While this program does not offer direct funding, we are dedicated to providing you with valuable education and resources to help you maximize your existing funding opportunities.

Your first meeting typically lasts 20-30 minutes. Follow-up meetings will depend on the types of financial planning you are working on with your coach. Most follow-up meetings last 30 minutes.

Check-in at the Welcome Desk on the first floor.

The financial empowerment program is not a source for emergency funding. Our coaches work with students on long-term plans for paying for college and its associated expenses.

If the financial situation is a short-term issue, the U of A Cares Student Emergency Fund may be a good resource to pursue. The purpose of the U of A Cares Emergency Fund is to assist University of Arkansas students with short-term emergencies. These funds are not intended to be used for routine expenses or as a consistent supplement. Emergency situations could include but are not limited to: death or serious illness of a parent, spouse or child, housing fire/flood, or other extenuating circumstances. This fund cannot be used to provide tuition support.

Financial empowerment coaches can meet with students to discuss local resources for those experiencing food insecurity. For students who may experience food insecurity, there is a food pantry on campus that can help. The Jane B. Gearhart Full Circle Food Pantry can assist students with meal needs. There is also the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank in the community.
