Become an Instructor

This course is a hybrid of standardized assessment tools and instructor-designed content. Instructors have the flexibility to apply the intellectual virtues to a topic or academic discipline of their choosing. Sample syllabi, course activities, and instructor training/coaching are provided by the UNIV department to support staff and faculty in the instruction of this course.

  2. Academic Confidence – Equip students for academic success at the University of Arkansas.
  3. Belonging – Foster spaces of belonging for all first-year students at the University of Arkansas

Learning Outcomes

  1. Read, write, and speak more comfortably in social and academic settings.
  2. Effectively listen and engage with the thoughts and opinions of people who are different from you in some way.
  3. Identify intellectual virtues and apply them in both social and academic settings.
  4. Identify and develop personal and academic practices to aid in student success (time management, holistic wellness, vocational discernment).
  5. Identify potential spaces of belonging on campus (RSOs, undergraduate research, study abroad, service learning).
  6. Identify and locate the resources available to you on campus (CORD, Library, CAPS, Financial Aid, etc.).
  7. Use University technology effectively and efficiently (Blackboard, UAConnect, Outlook, etc.).

Instructor Eligibility

  • Must hold a master’s degree or higher in any field. The only exemption that can be made is if the candidate holds an official academic advising position.
  • Staff candidates must be in a 100% appointed nonclassified positions. Faculty at any level of appointment are eligible.
  • Be willing to foster a sense of community and possess a commitment to student success.
  • Be open to holding 1:1 meetings throughout the semester to support your students.
  • Fill out an application and submit application materials by specified deadline, to be reviewed by a committee.
